CHARLOTTE (AP) — Some stores in a Charlotte mall will remain closed longer than expected after flooding damage last week.
A number of stores at SouthPark Mall will remain closed as workers try to make sure the most heavily damaged parts of the building are safe following the roof collapse during a storm Friday.
Mall officials had hoped to reopen today.
It’s unclear when the stores will open. The Charlotte Observer reported that as many as 90 of the mall’s 160 stores and kiosks would remain closed.
The mall’s department stores and the shops along the perimeter of the complex are open.
The heavy rain caused a roof failure in two locations. There were no injuries.
Most affected stores appeared to be in the center of the mall.
