A half dozen vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction wreck in the northbound lane of Interstate 85 near mile marker 85 Saturday night.
Several ambulances were called to the scene to transport victims, but the severity of their injuries was unclear.
A severe thunderstorm had just been broadcast for Rowan County as the Spencer area was hammered by rain and lightning.
One vehicle was reported overturned and rescue crews were attempting to use the interchange at N.C. 150 to get to the victims.
