SALISBURY — A Rockwell man will serve six to eight years in prison for drug possession, failing to register as a sex offender and being a habitual felon.
Jeffery Lynn Daniels, 54, was convicted on Monday in Rowan County Superior Court of sell and deliver marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and failing to report change of address as a registered sex offender. He also admitted his status of being a habitual felon.
Daniels will spend a minimum of 76 months and a maximum of 101 months in prison.
He was arrested June 2011 after detectives with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office received information Daniels was selling marijuana.
During an undercover operation, detectives made contact with Daniels to buy marijuana, a statement said.
An undercover detective met with Daniels who sold marijuana to the detective for $50.
A month ago, on June 19, Rowan Sheriff’s detectives received information Daniels, a registered sex offender, no longer lived at the address that was on file, a statement said.
Detectives met with individuals at the registered address who said Daniels never lived at the address. He was subsequently arrested.
In the 1970s, Daniels was convicted of breaking and entering. He served 12 years for multiple indecent liberties with a child charges from 1996.
Also Reginald Rucker, 46, of Woodleaf, was sentenced to just more than seven years to nearly 10 years.
Rucker, also known as Reggie or Duke Rucker, was sentenced Tuesday in court.
On July 31, 2012, Reginald Rucker of Woodleaf received an active sentence of a minimum of 87 months and a maximum of 117 months in prison for two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and habitual felon.
In March Salisbury Police Department detectives received a call in reference to an armed robbery at a Rushco convenience store near Statesville Boulevard.
The clerk told authorities a man came into the store, selected a few items from the store, brought them to the counter and demanded money, a statement said.
Rucker then reached over the counter, into the drawer and took $208.
On the same day, a clerk working at the Country Cupboard reported a robbery.
A man, later identified as Rucker, placed an item on the counter and then demanded the clerk to give him the money in the register, the statement said.
Rucker threatened the clerk and placed his hand in his pocket.
Rucker attempted to open the register. He was unable to open the register, but grabbed a pack of cigarettes and left he store.
As Rucker was leaving the store, the clerk noticed a knife in Rucker’s hand.
Rucker turned himself into authorities in April, he thought on warrants for misdemeanor failure to appear in court.
Rucker has been convicted of the cocaine possession, burglary, assault, larceny and forgery.
According to the NC Department of Correction, Rucker was on probation for an October larceny conviction.
