Delta Sigma Theta Sorority awards 19 scholarships

The Salisbury Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc awarded 19 scholarships to high school students during its first scholarship awards reception June 3.
The reception was held at the James Stowe Fellowship Center at Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Chapter President Monica Green and Scholarship Chair Kay Wright Norman presented 17 competitive scholarships to graduating high school from Rowan Salisbury Schools and two to Stanly County seniors.
These recipients had earned grade point averages from 3.14 to 4.78.
Scholarship funds are received from the Annual Kiddie Cotillion and are awarded through Delta Fort2ude Foundation, a nonprofit corporation.
The local Chapter and Food Lion-Delhaize America sponsored the reception. The 2012 recipients are:
Stanly Early College — Kendal Atkins, daughter of Parthenia Atkins, will attend UNC/Chapel Hill;
North Stanly High — Adelina Cato, daughter of Theresa Cato, will attend Wake Forest University;
Carson High —Brittany Norman, daughter of Missy Harvell, will attend Appalachian State University;
Jasmin Tindal, daughter of Dennis Chunn, will attend Winston –Salem State University;
Salisbury High — Serena Cowan, daughter of Patricia Cowan, wil attend A&T State University;
Kalil Duncan, son of Mr/ Mrs. Bryan Duncan, will attend UNC/Chapel Hill;
Jared Hardin, son of Mr/Mrs Kenneth Hardin, will attend UNC/Greensboro;
Robin Moulton, son of Mr/Mrs Robert Moulton will attend NC State University;
NyQuamia Wells, daughter of M/M Michael Wells, will attend NC A$T State University;
Jasmine Whisonant, daughter of Traci Whisonant will attend UNC/Greensboro;
North Rowan High — Lawrence Jamal Watkins, son of Georgia Watkins, will attend UNC/Greensboro;
Neegbeah Reeves, son of Saliematu Kemolai, will attend NC A& T State University;
South Rowan High — Alexa Allison, daughter of Michael and Linda Allison will attend UNC/Pembroke;
East Rowan High — Latosha Gaines, daughter of Larry and Shirley Gaines will attend Fayetteville State University;
West Rowan High — Alina Baugh, daughter of Jeffrey and Pamela Baugh, will attend UNC/Charlotte;
Breanna Griffin, daughter of Jennifer Shue, will attend UNC/Charlotte;
Christa Landy, daughter of Harvey and Myrtice Landy, will attend Auburn University;
Quinton Phifer, son of Juanita Sifford, will attend Wingate University and
Rowan Early College —BreAnna Miller, daughter of Georgette Turner and Brian Miller will attend UNC/Greensboro.
Scholarships are awarded following the successful completion of the first semester and registration for the second semester in the college/university where the student is enrolled.
