Suspect charged with wounding 2 Randolph deputies

RANDLEMAN (AP) — A man has been charged with wounding two Randolph County sheriff’s deputies during a traffic stop.
Jamey Lee Ashley, 36, was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. Monday in a barn about a mile from where the shooting occurred near Randleman.
Col. Freddy Rutledge said someone reported seeing a person running through a cornfield. No shots were fired during the arrest.
One deputy was shot in the arm and the other in the chest. Sheriff Maynard Reid said both are in stable condition. Their names have not been released.
Ashley is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a gun and possession of a gun by a convicted felon.
