DOT to close Harrison Road to make safety improvements

The N.C. Department of Transportation will close Harrison Road at its intersection with Sherrills Ford Road in Salisbury to make safety improvements starting Monday, Sept. 10, at 7 a.m.
Harrison Road curves sharply as it approaches Sherrills Ford Road and meets the intersection at a sharp angle. The large trucks that regularly travel along Harrison Road to the Food Lion distribution center and corporate headquarters have difficulty navigating the curve and seeing oncoming traffic at the intersection. To improve safety, NCDOT will realign Harrison Road to straighten out the curve and allow the road to intersect with Sherrills Ford Road at a 90-degree angle.
NCDOT estimates it will take about a month to complete the work, weather permitting. Harrison Road will remain closed until the improvements are complete. During that time, motorists must take the following detour route: Sherrills Ford Road to N.C. 150 to Jake Alexander Boulevard back to Harrison Road.
The department urges motorists traveling around the project to go slow, pay attention to construction-related signs and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
