SALISBURY – Those still hoping to secure a ticket to hear New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie stump for gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory at Catawba College will be disappointed.
College spokeswoman Tonia Black-Gold said all the tickets for the “Carolina Comeback” rally Thursday for the former Charlotte mayor and Catawba graduate have been distributed.
“They gave us a small allotment for employees and students and I had to turn in those names this week,” she said. “There have been no extra tickets.”
Greg Edds, chairman of the Rowan County Republican Party, said all the tickets were spoken for by Sept. 5, three days after they became available.
“Christie is certainly an outspoken firebrand for the Republican Party,” he said. “I think folks are relived to hear people who speak their mind and just glad that he’s not afraid to address the issues head on.
“I think people are starving for someone to tell them the truth and Christie is certainly willing to do that.”
Edds said the free tickets were distributed to those who registered online.
The event will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Kirkland lobby of the Abernethy Physical Education Center.
Black-Gold said the space will have room for about 550 people.
“Some people will show up without a ticket and those people will be outside,” she said.
Black-Gold said the college is ready for the visit.
“We’re excited because Pat is one of our alums,” she said. “We’re so proud of him.”
