Rowan County Church League, a charity golf league, presented a check for $2,143 to Rowan Helping Ministries and Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care. The presentation took place on Aug. 28 at McCanless Golf Club. Since 2006 the Rowan County Church League has given more than $11,000 to various organizations. The league consists of 16 churches. “We are blessed to have the support of our local churches. This generous gift will help families in financial crisis in our community,” said Rowan Helping Ministries’ Executive Director Kyna Foster.
“We greatly appreciate the generosity of the Rowan County Church League participants choosing to support Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care” said Senior Director Tammy Furr.
The donation received by Rowan Helping Ministries will serve those in the community who are in financial crisis. Over the past 12 months, Rowan Helping Ministries has provided financial assistance to 5,300 households to help people stay in their homes and keep their utilities on. They also served the hungry by providing 91,000 meals in the soup kitchen and shelter.
The funds given to Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care will help support their mission of serving patients who have a life-limiting illness. Additionally, donations help support other programs such as grief counseling services, which is open to anyone in the community who has experienced the loss of a loved one.
The league plays May through August. The next organizational meeting will be in April 2013.
“The Rowan County Church League is a great way to have fun and fellowship while helping others. The more churches we can recruit the more we are able to help out,” said Scott Perry, general manager/PGA professional at McCanless Golf Club.
