New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie pumped up a crowd gathered inside Catawba College’s Abernethy Physical Education Center this afternoon as he stumped from Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory.
Christie called the competition between McCrory and Democrat Walter Dalton, the current lieutenant governor, the most important governor’s race in the country.
“North Carolina doesn’t need to trade one failed administration for another,” Christie said. “North Carolina must elect Pat McCrory.”
Christie said the state’s sales tax will go up if Dalton’s elected.
“You can take that to the bank,” he said. “You do not balance budgets by raising taxes, you balance budgets by cutting spending and making government smaller.”
During his visit, Christie challenged those in attendance to look at their calendars for the next 54 days leading up to the election and figure out how many hours they can volunteer.
“We cannot take one minute for granted on Pat’s behalf,” he said. “You don’t want to wake up on Nov. 7 and say ‘I could have done more.’”
