DURHAM – Sean Renfree threw for 314 yards and four touchdowns to lead Duke past Memphis 38-14 on Saturday night.
Renfree was 26 of 37 with TDs covering 37 and 31 yards to Conner Vernon, 16 yards to Desmond Scott and 8 yards to Brandon Connette for the Blue Devils (3-1), who outgained the Tigers 500-152 and are off to their best start since 2008.
Dukeheld Memphis (0-4) to less than 100 total yards until late in the third quarter.
Duke scored the final 31 points to turn it into a blowout, and Renfree helped the Blue Devils pull away by leading consecutive touchdown drives in the second half.
Duke will open ACC play halfway toward the six wins needed for bowl eligibility. The Blue Devils haven’t reached the postseason since 1994, and this marks just the second time since then that they have won three of their first four.The three wins have each come by at least 20 points, and the only loss came against Stanford.
MIAMI 42, GA. TECH, 36, OT
ATLANTA – Miami’s 42-36 overtime win at Georgia Tech Saturday might have qualified as a classic run-vs.-pass contest. It definitely was a game of scoring streaks and big numbers for Hurricanes quarterback Stephen Morris and running back Mike James.
Morris passed for a career-high 436 yards, fifth-most in Miami history, James scored four touchdowns and the Hurricanes (3-1, 2-0 ACC) beat Tech (2-2, 1-2) for the fourth straight time by scoring the game’s first 19 points and the final 23.
The Yellow Jackets scored 36 straight in between. That might have been enough if the Hurricanes hadn’t stuffed Tech quarterback Tevin Washington on fourth-and-inches at the Miami 1 in overtime.
James countered with a 25-yard scoring run two plays later to set off a raucous celebration among the visitors.
NO. 17 TCU 27, VIRGINIA 7
FORT WORTH, Texas – Kenny Cain had two interceptions, returning one 40 yards to set up a field goal, and recovered a fumble after the first of Carter’s two one-handed grabs. The TCU Horned Frogs stretched their FBS-best winning streak to 11 in a row with 27-7 win over Virginia on Saturday.
Former West Rowan star K.P. Parks led the Cavaliers with 84 yards rushing on 12 carries.
VA. TECH 37, BOWLING GREEN 0
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Three straight bungled series to open the game brought the boo birds out at Lane Stadium.Then Logan Thomas decided it was time to give his offense a spark, and a 14-yard run and then a 3-yard run did the trick, pushing the Hokies to a 37-0 victory against Bowling Green.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia’s Tavon Austin caught three touchdown passes in another remarkable game against his home-state Terrapins and No. 8 West Virginia outlasted Maryland 31-21 on Saturday.
