RCCC offering new workshops for job seekers

KANNAPOLIS — R3 Career Services is offering numerous career development workshops and resumé clinics in June for adults in Rowan and Cabarrus counties. Workshops and clinics are provided free of charge.
Employer Spotlight is back, this time with a focus on Tuscarora Yarns. On June 10 at 6 p.m. at the R3 Center in Kannapolis, representatives from the company will share information on how interested candidates can apply for open positions.
The “Should I become a nurse aide?” workshop will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 2:30 p.m. at the College’s R3 Center in Kannapolis.
R3’s mission is built on three Rs — a refocus on individual skills and interests, retraining and further education and partnering with other workforce development agencies to secure career-oriented re-employment.
Services include individual career coaching, career building and job seeking workshops, Employability Labs where clients can utilize a computer lab for their work search, classes designed for quick skill building and Career Readiness Certification. Services are now available in both Rowan and Cabarrus counties.
“New Client Launch” is an orientation workshop for people who have never attended an R3 workshop or taken advantage of its other services. Appointments are available Monday through Friday and can be made by calling 704-216-7201.
The calendar also includes the following workshops held at the R3 Career Center in Kannapolis: “Stand out from the competition,” Tuesdays at 11 a.m.; “Interview techniques,” Tuesdays at 1 p.m.; “Refocus your career options,” Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m.; “Looking for work at 50+,” June 12 at 9 a.m. and June 26 at 11 a.m.; “Looking for work with a criminal record,” June 19 at 9 a.m.; “Letter writing for the job seeker,” June 12 at 11 a.m.; “Online job hunting beginners,” June 5 and June 19 at 11 a.m.; “Should I get LinkedIn?” June 5 and June 26 at 9 a.m.; “Should I become a nurse aide?” June 26 at 2:30 p.m.; and “Meet the employers” June 10 at 6 p.m.
R3 Career Services helps adult workers assess their skills, aptitudes, training and academic credentials, and future career interests to develop an action plan for career growth. The center will also offer multiple resumé clinics to help job searchers improve their current resume or create a new one from start to finish. Please call to reserve a seat. The resumé clinics are scheduled for Tuesdays at 9 a.m. and June 24 at 6 p.m.
R3 Career Services also offers short-term training classes starting in June. Some students will qualify for tuition waivers based on income and employment status. Students registering for an online class will be required to attend a registration/orientation meeting. Call 704-216-7201 for more information and to learn how to register.
“Introduction to the medical field” meets Fridays 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 6 to Aug. 8 at the Cloverleaf Extension.
“GPS to success” meets on Wednesdays and Thursdays 11:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m. June 25 to July 17 at Career Connections.
“Keyboarding,” which is held at Career Connections and the Cloverleaf Extension has open enrollment for classes held on Mondays and Wednesdays.
“Introduction to workplace writing” and “Introduction to health careers” will be held June 2 to July 15 online.
“Introduction to business administration careers” and “Introduction to game development careers” will be held June 16 to July 29 online.
“Introduction to public safety, law, corrections and security careers” and “Introduction to marketing careers” will be held June 20 to Aug. 12 online.
Walk-ins are welcome at any of Rowan-Cabarrus’ Employability Lab locations during lab hours. Pace yourself in this open lab designed with the job-seeker in mind.
These locations are: the R3 Center, which is open Monday through Thursday from noon until 4 p.m.; Cloverleaf, open Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and Goodwill Career Connections, open Monday through Thursday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
R3 Career Services partners with other workforce development agencies, including the Centralina Workforce Development Board, Workforce Centers of Cabarrus and Rowan counties, N.C. Department of Commerce — Division of Workforce Solutions and other area community colleges.
