Chloe Bully hit a driving bucket with 1.6 seconds left to give Catawba’s women’s basketball team a 68-66 win at Livingstone’s Trent Gym on Tuesday.
Kelcyn Manurs tied the game for Livingstone with 11 seconds left. Catawba called timeout with 6.5 seconds left, and Bully drove from the backcourt to make the winning layup.
Freshman Antionette McPhail led Catawba (1-2) with 23 points on 10-for-15 shooting and added eight rebounds.
Bully had 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Elizabeth Merritt scored 12 points. Quanesia Coleman grabbed nine rebounds.
Cierra York had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Bears (2-2). Tyesha Sharpe scored 16 points, and Tiffany Evans had 14.
Catawba is at home on Friday against J.C. Smith at 8 p.m. in the Comfort Suites Classic.

? Pfeiffer’s women stayed unbeaten with a 72-60 Conference Carolinas win against Lees-McRae on Tuesday at Merner Gym.
Brittany Cox led the Falcons (4-0) with 18 points. Christina Harvey scored 15.The North Hills girls rolled 72-20 against Miller’s Creek.
Natalie Whicker scored 19 points and had six steals. Abby Lane had 17 points and five steals. Olivia Houghton scored 12, points. Madison Link had 10 points and six steals.
Lane scored her 1,000th career point in the contest.
? North Iredell’s boys opened with a 72-33 loss to Lake Norman on Monday. Kishawn Pritchett scored 15 points for the Wildcats.
? Lake Norman’s girls won 69-67 against North Iredell.
? On Friday at 2 p.m., North Rowan’s boys will play Peachtree Ridge of Suwanee, Ga., in the Charlotte Hoops Challenge at the Waddell Language Academy.

Miller won closest to the pin, while Chris Curtis won longest putt.

Hill scored 44 points in two games for the Blue Bears (4-1).Averett’s junior cornerback Zack Grkman (Carson) received the outstanding defensive player and co-MVP honors at the football team’s award banquet.
Grkman intercepted three passes, broke up eight passes and was in on 48 tackles.
Grkman also was named to the Capitol One Academic All-District team. Grkman has a 3.75 GPA while majoring in sports medicine.
? Wingate receiver Chris Bowden is one of eight national finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy.Wingate leads the current SAC standings for overall athletic excellence.
Lenoir-Rhyne is second. Mars Hill is third. Next, in order, are Lincoln Memorial, Tusculum, Catawba, Carson-Newman, Anderson, Newberry and Brevard.
Wingate has won the Echols Athletic Excellence Award each of the last six seasons.College swimmingCatawba’s men’s swim team finished fifth and the Catawba women finished sixth in the Fall Frenzy Meet at Mecklenburg Aquatic Center.
Catawba had seven Divison II ‘B’ cuts and broke seven school records.

Andrew McCollister (Salisbury) was ninth in the men’s 1650 free (16:41.41).

Middle school wrestling
Corriher-Lipe beat Knox 60-30, and Southeast won 62-30 against West Rowan Middle.

8th-grade basketball
Erwin’s girls beat Mooresville 32-19. As seventh-graders, Erwin won the regular season and Mooresville won the tournament.
The Eagles (3-0) were paced by Micah Furr with 12 points, eight steals and six rebounds. Breya Philpot had eight points, 10 rebounds and eight steals. Courtney Wagner had six points and eight rebounds. Ashlyn Mills had four assists.
Carlee Brawley, Lauren Solick and Sehrena Hull score five apiece for the Red Imps (1-1).
? Mooresville boys beat Erwin 64-45. As seventh-graders, Mooresville won the regular season and tournament.
Jay Davis led the Red Imps with 16 points, and Noah Allen scored 11. Kenneth Nusser had nine, Gavin Stewart had six, and Jace Donaldson and Josh Roberts scored five each.
Erwin (2-1) was led by Lucas Morton’s 14 points. Datavian Davis had 11, and Sean Perry scored seven.
? China Grove’s boys won 46-33 against Corriher-Lipe.
Hayden Wilson led the Red Devils with 16 ponts, and Dillon Norton scored 12.
A.J. Knight and Alex Figueroa led the Yellow Jackets with eight points apiece.
? West Rowan Middle’s boys beat Southeast 48-30.
Jovon Quarles led the Bulldogs (1-1) with 12 points. Nick Warren scored 10, and Armoni Hogue and Kortez Weeks scored nine each. Quarles had nine rebounds, and Hogue and Weeks teamed for eight boards.
Malon Herron scored 11 points to lead the Patriots (0-2).
? Salisbury Academy’s girls opened with a 42-10 win against Winston-Salem’s St. John’s Lutheran.
Jenny Kribbs led the Jaguars with 11 points. Mario Capito had nine points, Jordan McCall scored seven, Abby Lee had six, and Juliana Anderson scored five.
Madison Day and Samantha Pritchard led the reboundings. Ruth Clement and Ivy Overcash led the defense.
The Jaguars will play at home against Winston-Salem’s First Assembly on Nov. 27 at 4 p.m.

Youth cross countryThe J.F, Hurley YMCA Warriors performed well in a national qualifier held in Fayetteville, Ga.
All the Warriors ran a personal record. Top-20 finishers in Georgia qualified for the nationals on Dec. 8 in Albuquerque, N.M.

Youth softball
The Rowan Rage won their third Top Gun championship of the fall. After falling into the losers bracket, the Rage won four straight games.
Team members are Vetta Bost, Coryn Soul, Abby Fields, Choyce Neil, Bree Medlin, Gracie Honeycutt, Reagan Perry, Sam Truesdale, Emily Brown, Sharade Daniels and Kamryn Stamey. Head coach is Mitch Medlin and assists are Todd Fields, Mike Mills and Frank Daniels.
