?SALISBURY – An Albemarle woman is in good condition after losing control of her car Saturday and landing down an embankment on Sherills Ford Road.
Leslie Renee Willis, 21, was driving west in her 1999 Pontiac Firebird just before 3 p.m. on Sherills Ford Road when she ran off the right side.
The single-vehicle accident was just more than six miles west of Salisbury in the 7800 block of Sherills Ford Road, said N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper B.P. Potts.
Potts said Willis overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. The car went off the right side of road and down a steep embankment.
He said the car hit a barbed wire fence, overturned several times and came to rest on its top.
Willis was wearing a seatbelt. Her 3-month-old son was in the back right of the car in a child car seat.
Injuries to mother and child weren’t considered life-threatening after they were taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center. The infant had mostly scratches on him, Potts said.
When emergency responders arrived, Willis had already crawled out of a broken window with her son. A witness who was driving behind her called for help.
Willis told emergency personnel the baby slept through the whole ordeal. She was headed to Love Valley, just on the other side of Statesville, to visit her mother.
West Rowan Fire Department responded, as did the Rowan County Rescue Squad.
