The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education will find out more about state-mandated tests that will be given to students to gauge teacher effectiveness during its regular meeting Monday.
Colby Cochran, the district’s director of testing and student accountability, will provide the update.
Earlier this year, Cochran told a Post reporter that a number of decisions had to be made on the state level before local plans could be finalized.
Although the N.C. Department of Public Instruction has created the tests, individual school systems will have to print and score them.
The tests will not be used in promotion decisions or as part of the school accountability model; instead, they will be part of the teacher evaluation process.
During Monday’s meeting, the school board will also:
• Receive the 2011-12 financial audit report, which was presented to the board’s finance subcommittee earlier this month. The audit showed the district is in good financial shape.
• Hear a presentation by Salisbury City Manager Doug Paris about the formation of a youth council by the Salisbury City Council.
• Receive information about fall high school registration and the 2012-13 updated guidebook
• Hear a report about the cultural audit findings from Salisbury High School Principal Dr. Avis Williams.
The school board meeting at 5 p.m. Monday at the Long Street Administrative Office, 110 S. Long St. in East Spencer.
