On Nov. 17, Waterworks Visual Arts Center presented the first of two Holiday Creations Children’s Workshops for children 4-10 years of age.
Guided by instructor Ingrid Erickson, the youngsters created a Thanksgiving turkey-themed place setting, which included a placemat, plate, bowl, cup, napkin ring and utensil covers. “A Very Happy Mixed Media Thanksgiving” explored the use of paint, wax resistance, coloring, drawing, and encouraged the individuality of each student.
Upcoming on Saturday, Dec. 1, is the next of the two-part holiday workshops, “Trimming the Tree Around the World,” also guided by Erickson. “To watch a child create and imagine something in their own mind and then create it for others to visually see is exciting for a teacher,” Erickson said. “It is such a feeling of accomplishment for them as well as me.”
Sisters Courtney, age 7, and Meredith, 4 Williams attended the Thanksgiving workshop and their mother, Traci Williams, says she already has them signed up for the next one. “I have been in Salisbury for just over eight years and I was so happy to find Waterworks four years ago,” Williams said. “My oldest daughter Courtney has also attended the Summer ARTventures programs that they offer and we all are better for it.”
