CONCORD – Robert Evans, author and psychologist, will offer advice to parents about how they can help their children develop key life skills on Thursday, Nov. 1, in Cannon School’s Taylor Hall, beginning at 7 p.m.
In his book “Family Matters,” Evans outlines a school-family collaboration that supports and guides children through an emphasis on core values and personal responsibility.
“‘Family Matters remains one of the best books on parenting that I have read,” said Head of School Matt Gossage. “Rob will draw from this book as he speaks to us on the topic of parenting through uncertainty.”
Evans, Ed.D., is a clinical and organizational psychologist and director of the Human Relations Service in Wellesley, Mass. The former high school and preschool teacher has been a consultant to more than 1,600 schools throughout the United States and around the world, offering training and longterm support for teachers, administrators and parents. His presentations are known for their wit and plain talk. He is the author of many articles and three books, including “Family Matters: How Schools Can Cope with The Crisis in Childrearing.”

This free community event is the first of the Maria DeHaas Lecture Series, made possible by the generosity of Dr. Ryan DeHaas and his family and friends through the Maria DeHaas Endowed Fund.
The series will feature talks on topics of importance to families by speakers who will share their expertise and lead discussions with the Cannon School community and the public.
Information session
Charlotte-area parents of junior kindergarten and kindergarten-age children are invited to a junior kindergarten and kindergarten information session Friday at 10 a.m., at Cannon’s Concord campus at 5801 Poplar Tent Road.
Parents will hear from Head of Lower School Michelle Alexander about Cannon’s educational philosophy, factors that distinguish the junior kindergarten and kindergarten curricula and experiences, and additional opportunities for extended day learning.
