Matthew Weaver fans – and they are legion around here – will be happy to know that the versatile musician has released a new CD: “Matthew Weaver and Friends – Live in Salisbury.”
In December of 2011, Weaver performed a concert at Keppel Auditorium, Catawba College. The concert was recorded live and and is now available on DVD and CD.
On Thursday, Dec. 6, Weaver will be at the Rowan Public Library in Salisbury from 5-7 p.m. to sell and autograph CDs and DVDs.
At 7 p.m., he will perform a free concert in the library’s Stanback Auditorium. Joining him will be Paul Hill and musical friends from Appalachian State who performed the concert taping. The public is invited.
Weaver has been on a roll recently. Several weeks ago, he found out that he had been awarded the 2012 State of North Carolina Bascom Lamar Lunsford trophy. Weaver says he was “shocked and humbled” to have been selected among several hundred other performers to win the coveted award, which is based on a performer’s professionalism, stage persona, appearance and other criteria.
Also, for the second year in a row, Weaver was named Instrumentalist-Pianist of the Year at the North Carolina State Fair.
Weaver says his career in country-bluegrass music is growing rapidly. “This is all I want to do with my life,” he says.
“I thank everyone from Salisbury and Rowan County who have supported and stood behind me as my music career continues to grow and expand,” he says. “I would not be where I am today without the outpouring of love and support from the community. Wherever I perform, I am always proud to represent my city and county, and I will always be your hometown music boy.
Weaver notes that “bigger events” are on the horizon for 2013.
