Letters from home: Families eager to share soldiers’ addresses

Published 12:00 am Saturday, December 1, 2012

The Post received rapid and grateful responses from area families following our request for mailing addresses of local military personnel actively serving the country far from home.
The holidays are times for traditional family gatherings and present a particular challenge to those serving in the military, as well as their families. Our hope is to help area residents connect with our local troops and share the joy of the season.
These are the addresses we have to date, along with other interesting details as provided to us. Please remember that mail going to Iraq and Afghanistan needs to be mailed by Monday, Dec. 3, to other destinations by Monday, Dec. 17, to be received by Dec. 25.
Betty Duncan of Faith sent two addresses.
“My son, Army National Guard Specialist Andrew Duncan, and his friend Specialist Nathan Clark, have been deployed to the Sinai Peninsula,” she said via email. “Their unit, HHB 5-113th Field Artillery, is based in Louisburg, and they were scheduled to leave Camp Atterbury, Ind., this past Tuesday (Nov. 27.) We haven’t heard from them since Thanksgiving day and we last saw them in late October before they left to go to Indiana.”
A 2005 graduate of East Rowan, Nathan is the son of Timothy and Deborah Clark of Rockwell. Andrew is the son of Tom and Betty L. Duncan of Faith and graduated from East Rowan in 2008. Both Nathan and Andrew attended N.C. State University.
They are part of a multi-national task force on a peace-keeping mission. Approximately 300 soldiers from the N.C. National Guard are being deployed.
