?SALISBURY — Authorities charged a Salisbury man in connection with the September break-in of the Nazareth Children’s Home Store.

William Dale Berns, 60, of Falcon Ridge Road, was already in the Rowan County Detention Center on accusations of robbing a Granite Quarry Dollar General store in late November.

He was charged Tuesday with felony breaking and entering.

The incident occurred when an employee of the store noticed a broken window shortly before 8 a.m. on Sept. 20.

The employee found a bag with a blue ski mask, steak knife and ski gloves.

If appeared the suspect had panicked and left the items behind, said Salisbury Police Capt. Shelia Lingle.

Nothing was taken from the store, but there was $500 worth of damage to the window.

In the Dollar Store incident, Berns was charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon and larceny of a pit bull. He was held under a $52,500 bond in that incident and remains in the county jail under an additional $2,500 bond.

His first court appearance is Friday.
