KANNAPOLIS — A Smith Road man is charged with shooting a man in the leg in an effort to break up a fight in the street.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Harry “Donnie” Donald Jackson, 43, of 8215 Smith Road, with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.
Jackson went outside where he said his stepson, Jerry James, 31, also of 8215 Smith Road, was being beaten by half a dozen people in the street. Jackson loaded his .44 magnum, went outside and fired a shot at the man he believes went to a truck and pulled out something “shiny.”
Alejandro “Alex” Aranda, 27, of 250 Bren Lane, Salisbury, was shot in the upper thigh and airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
James told officials a Christopher Green, 37, of 180 Western Acres Drive, Kannapolis, threatened to beat him up and showed up at his house. The two men fought and others jumped into the fight.
Officials later found a baseball bat in the yard of a residence at 8243 Smith Road.
