RALEIGH ó North Carolina State quarterback Russell Wilson will leave school next month to focus on spring training with the Colorado Rockies organization.
In a statement from the school Monday, Wilson said he wants to give a possible baseball career the same level of attention he gave football for the past six months.
The school says Wilson will continue to pursue his degree and hasnít ruled out returning for his senior season of football.
The school said Wilson wonít talk further about his future for now.
The redshirt junior helped the Wolfpack win nine games and come a victory away from winning the Atlantic Coast Conferenceís Atlantic Division title. Wilson was a fourth-round draft pick of the Rockies last summer.
BRADFORD TO MARYLAND
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ó Southern Mississippi is losing its defensive coordinator.
Todd Bradford has taken a job as linebackers coach at the University of Maryland under the new head coach there, Randy Edsall.
Bradford followed head coach Larry Fedora to USM from Oklahoma State at the end of 2007.
Fedora will spend the next week on the road recruiting while he works to find Bradfordís successor.
ěI want to do it sooner rather than later, but at the same time, weíve got to find the right guy to fit with the staff and our philosophy,î Fedora said.
ADAMS ENTERS DRAFT
AUBURN, Ala. ó Auburn receiver Darvin Adams is skipping his senior season to enter the NFL draft.
The school announced the latest departure Monday, following similar decisions by quarterback Cam Newton and defensive tackle Nick Fairley.
The deadline for entry was Saturday.
Adams led the BCS national champions in receiving the past two seasons, catching 52 passes for 963 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior.
He set a Southeastern Conference championship game record with 217 yards receiving.
Adams ranks in the top 10 in several Auburn career receiving categories, including a tie for third with 17 touchdowns. He is also sixth in yards (1,978) and catches (115).
Adamsí 60 catches as a sophomore was a school single-season record.
