U.S. Sen. Kay R. Hagan (D-NC) nominated 25 students from the Piedmont area to attend a U.S. Service Academy in 2011.
Jameson Blalock of Salisbury was nominated to the United States Military Academy.
Natasha Boozell of Mooresville was nominated to the United States Air Force Academy.
Receiving a nomination from a member of Congress is a significant accomplishment, as the service academies have a highly competitive application process.

The 40 students selected for nominations across North Carolina have exemplary academic records and have made outstanding contributions to their communities. North Carolina is the most military friendly state in the nation, and I am proud of all of our North Carolina students who are seeking a world-class academy education and want to serve our country.î
Each year, Hagan hosts Academy Day for middle and high school students interested in applying to U.S. military service academies. The event is an opportunity for students to meet with cadets and midshipmen from the service academies and learn more about the nomination process through Haganís office.
Representatives from all five service academies ó the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy and U.S. Naval Academy ó attend the event. The last Academy Day event was held in September in Morrisville.
