Acclaimed fiction writer Michael Parker will read his work Monday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Tom Smith Auditorium on the campus of Catawba College.
A professor in the MFA writing program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Parker is the author of five novels: ěHello Down There,î ěTowns Without Rivers,î ěVirginia Lovers,î ěIf You Want Me To Stay,î ěThe Watery Part of the Worldî and two collections of stories, ěThe Geographical Cureî and ěDonít Make Me Stop Now.î
His fiction and nonfiction have appeared in various journals including Five Points, The Georgia Review, The Idaho Review, The Washington Post, New York Times Magazine, Oxford American, Shenandoah and The Black Warrior Review.
Parker has received fellowships in fiction from the North Carolina Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as the Hobson Award for Arts and Letters, and the North Carolina Award for Literature. His work has been anthologized in the ěPushcart,î ěNew Stories from the Southî and ěO. Henry Prize Stories.î He is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and the University of Virginia.
