In an effort to provide advanced training and continuing education for marriage and family therapy professionals, and to meet the North Carolina licensure law for the discipline, Pfeiffer University will soon offer courses for a masterís degree program in marriage and family therapy (MFT) within the Research Triangle Park.
This August, MFT graduate courses will be offered on the universityís Triangle campus, 2880 Slater Rd., Suite 100, in Morrisville. This new degree program will offer intensive clinical training that combines a strong theoretical base and a rigorous experiential component.
Pfeifferís MFT program, which began offering courses in Charlotte in 2007, is one of three MFT programs accredited by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapyís Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) in North Carolina and one of 110 accredited graduate programs across the United States.
Those who complete the degree program will be prepared to work in mental health centers, hospitals, health-maintenance organizations, family services clinics, churches and private practice, according to Dr. Susan Wilkie, program director and associate professor in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Pfeiffer.
ěGraduates of this program will also have a unique opportunity through their one-year practicum and internship to provide affordable counseling and mental health outreach to the Raleigh-Durham area communities,î said Wilkie.
Wilkie will be available to meet with prospective MFT graduate students on Tuesday, March 22, from 2 until 6 p.m. and during the information session hosted at 5:30 p.m. on the universityís Triangle campus.
The application deadlines are April 2 and June 2 for prospective students who hope to begin classes for the fall semester. To inquire about the program or for complete application materials, please visit www.pfeiffer. edu/marriage or contact Wilkie at susan.wilkie@pfeiffer.edu.
