The East Rowan High School auditorium will once again come alive this spring with the sights and sounds of the 19th annual Broadway revue show.
“A Tribute to Stage and Film” will be performed Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee showing Sunday, March 27 at 2:30 p.m.
This year’s show boasts a cast of more than 140.
The annual revue is sponsored by S.E.E.R. (Supporters of Education at East Rowan) and is open to any student enrolled at East Rowan. The revue also extends a welcome to the Erwin Middle School Honors Chorus.
Started in 1993 by Sally Brodie, the revue is the longest running annual show of its kind in the Rowan county schools.
Dean Orbison, musical director and script writer for the revue, is in his 16th year at East.
“The hardest thing about putting the show together is finding music we haven’t used before,” Orbison says.
Musical selections this year will come from “Annie,” “The Color Purple,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’”, “West Side Story,” “Hairspray,” “Sister Act” and a number of other Broadway shows and movies.
Laura Yoe Troutman, choreographer and production coordinator, works tirelessly to make sure each student is prepared for all the dance moves.
“The show is truly a musical revue with singing, dancing, acting, and 14 costume changes,” Troutman says.
Elizabeth Cook, Erwin Middle School director, prepares her students for two solo numbers and the group joins the entire cast for the finale, which this year is “Life is a Highway” from the movie “Cars.” Stacey Rollins’ and Arlene Cooper’s art classes provide all the art work for the program, making this event truly a community effort.
Tickets for the show can be purchased in the school lobby Tuesday-Thursday from 5:30-8:30 p.m., on Saturday, March 19, 2-4 p.m. as well as at the door.
