SALISBURY — A van parked in the parking lot of a closed business grabbed the attention of Salisbury Police Officer Wanda Gibson, which led to drug charges for two Salisbury women.
According to a report from the Salisbury Police Department, Gibson was driving down Partee Street and noticed three males walking away from a van parked in a parking lot and saw the van pull off onto Brenner Avenue.
Gibson ran the tag and pulled the van over. The officer found driver Marie White Carlos, of Salisbury, driving without a license, the report said.
When Gibson asked for her registration, Carlos opened the glove compartment, and Gibson saw two pill bottles. Gibson was never given the registration, but ran the identification of the passenger, Quinta Latavia Carlos, 26, also of Salisbury.
Gibson went back to get the registration and the pill bottles were gone, the report said. She asked the Carloses what they did with the bottles, and they turned them over to Gibson. One of the bottles contained a white powder residue.
Gibson was given consent to search the car and the Carloses.
Gibson found six hydrocodone pills and six diazepam pills in Marie Carlos’ possession, and several plastic bag “tear-offs” with powder residue and a straw.
Quinta Carlos was found to be in possession of a small bag of cocaine and a straw, the report said.
Both were arrested and taken to the magistrate’s office.
Quinta Carlos, of 1614 Standish St., 7E, was charged with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear for a warrant from 2004. She was given a $4,000 secured bond.
Marie Carlos, of 719 Williams Road, was charged with possession of schedule III and VI controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was served with an outstanding 2003 warrant from Elizabeth City for a worthless check. She was given a $1,000 secured bond.
