The Rowan-Salisbury School System has secured property and is one step closer “to a shovel in the ground” for a consolidated central office, according to Dr. Richard Miller, chairman of the school board.
Lee and Mona Wallace purchased seven parcels of property in the 500 block of North Main Street and are exchanging them for the property that currently houses the district’s administrative offices on Ellis Street.
“We are excited to announce a partnership today that will finally help us put the shovel and the concrete in the ground for a new consolidated central office in Salisbury,” Miller said.
The announcement was made after a closed session early in Thursday’s school board meeting.
“We care about education in Rowan County,” Mona Wallace said.
According to county records, the Wallaces purchased the seven parcels of land from a limited liability corporation managed by local businessman Clay Lindsay for $834,000.
Both Wallace and Miller agreed that the best place for the central office was the 500 block of North Main Street because it has already been approved by county commissioners.
