SALISBURY – The Salisbury Police Department is recreating the Wednesday night crash on Jake Alexander Boulevard that sent Police Officer Karl Boehm to the hospital.
Police are still looking for the driver of the green 2000 Ford Focus that turned in front of Boehm’s patrol car, causing the crash, and then fled from the scene on foot.
The registered owner of the Ford Focus reported the car stolen, saying he went outside to “warm up” his car, police said, and when he came back out it was gone. Police are investigating.
According to a press release from Police Chief Rory Collins, Boehm sustained only minor injuries and was released from Rowan Regional Medical Center last night.
Boehm’s car was totaled after he struck the rear of the Ford Focus, trying to swerve to miss it. He then traveled about 100 yards down Jake Alexander Boulevard, taking out a power pole, tree and fire hydrant and finally came to a stop near the entrance to radio station WSAT in a small field.
A K-9 search to locate the driver proved unsuccessful. The 1200 block of Jake Alexander Boulevard was closed as crews from Duke Energy worked to replace the pole.
Sgt. Justin Crews, Boehm’s patrol supervisor, is continuing the investigation to try to identify the driver of the Ford Focus.
