SALISBURY — People who want to know if City Council will discuss the surprise departure of the former city manager have to wait longer than usual.
Long before Doug Paris and City Council came to what they called a mutual agreement to end his contract during a five-hour closed session on June 17, council members had decided to cancel their regular meeting this week.
So City Council is not scheduled to meet again until July 15 at 4 p.m. in City Hall.
No one is saying why Paris left. He received a severance package worth nearly $210,000.
The city’s former public information director, Elaney Hasselmann, quit her job the morning after the closed session, saying she was leaving because Paris departed. She received a severance valued at more than $32,000, even though she resigned and did not have an employment contract, which she negotiated with city staff.
