Part of Concord's Morehead Road to be closed

The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close a section of Morehead Road (State Road 1300) between U.S. 29 and Performance Drive in Concord Friday at midnight until Monday, May 2, at 6 a.m., weather permitting.
The road closure is necessary for the contractor to tie in new lanes with the realignment of Morehead Road. Traffic will be detoured via Hudspeth Road during the closure.
The $4.2 million contract was awarded to Granite Contracting LL. of Concord last June to reconstruct Morehead Road to a four-lane road east of its current location, and will include a pedestrian-vehicle overpass. The project is scheduled to be complete June 20.
