CHINA GROVE — A China Grove man is behind bars, charged with kidnapping, assault by strangulation and assault on a female.
According to the China Grove Police Department, officers responded to 412 John St. Sunday night to meet with Lori Livengood, who reported that she had been assaulted by her husband and was held at home against her will. Police said she was able to escape after her husband fell asleep.
Lori Livengood alleged that Jeffrey Livengood hit her in the face and strangled her during the incident, police said.
Warrants were obtained for the arrest of Jeffrey Livengood, and during the attempt to serve them, Livengood refused to allow police inside his home. Officers had to force themselves inside the home.
Police said Livengood was then arrested without incident.
Livengood’s bond will be set today in court.
