SOUTHERN PINES — The Salisbury boys golf team won the 2A state championship Tuesday at Longleaf Golf and Country Club in Southern Pines.
After finishing second last year to North Lincoln, the teams swapped places to give Salisbury its fourth championship in a team sport this school year. The Hornets shot 287 as a team in the second round for a 580 total score after a 293 on Monday. North shot a 604.
Roy Dixon, a senior and last year’s individual champion, placed second in the individual race with a 142. North Surry’s Taylor Coalson won the individual with a 140.
“You can’t win this title with two or three good golfers,” Salisbury coach Dale Snyder said. “You’ve got to have five or six good golfers and that’s what we’ve got.”
