The Rowan Public Library has been named a recipient of one of the Young Adult Library Services Association’s (YALSA) 20 Summer Reading Program Grants.
The grants give each winning library $1,000 to offer inventive summer reading programs to the teens in their community. The grants are funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
“This grant will help enable the library to provide interactive programs to help keep teens reading throughout the summer months,” said Erika Kosin, youth services supervisor. “Teens suffer learning and reading setbacks during the summer — by keeping them actively engaged, the library helps prevent those pesky slides in learning.”
Rowan Public Library plans to use the mini-grant to fund activities, crafts and foods that represent different continents for our You Are Here Summer Reading Program.
To participate in Rowan Public Library’s teen summer reading program, register at any library location to receive a reading passport and information about how the program works.
