Student gets scholarship
Maria E. Tonseth, a rising senior from Salisbury, received the Stephenson-Biddix Scholarship during the University of North Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communication 2011 scholarships and awards ceremony.
The $1,000 scholarship was created by Henry and Linda Biddix Stephenson in honor of their parents, Dr. Henry Stephenson and Frances Stephenson of Washington, N.C., George and Reva Mae Biddix of Rutherfordton, and their many family members who have graduated from UNC.
This year, the school presented nearly 150 scholarships and awards totaling more than $200,000.
