Seventh grade academically and intellectually gifted (AIG) students from all of the Rowan-Salisbury schools recently took a field trip to the N.C. Transportation Museum to solve a murder mystery.
Students collaborated to write the following articles about their experience.
We became detectives and had to solve a murder mystery. We had to interview each character to get information to be able to solve the murder.
Frank Archer was a yard engineer. When we interviewed him, it seemed as if he was making his story up as we asked him questions. He said that he thought bootlegging was stupid, though he was arrested for it and he said that he didnít believe in bootlegging.
Chance Holt was the roundhouse foreman. He told us he was arrested for bootlegging but wouldnít be charged if he helped the detective for busting people that were bootlegging.
Chip Clayton was over all the workers. He was straight to the point and was against bootlegging. He was suspicious about George. He told us to check out George because George bought brand new baseball uniforms for the whole team when George didnít have a lot of money.
Daisy was very nervous under pressure when we interviewed her. She was very interested in Frank and what he does. She said he was ěthe bees knees.î She doesnít believe in bootlegging but goes to speakeasies and dances with Frank.
So who killed Agent Costello? Why? Youíll just have to figure it out!

Our field trip to Spencerís transportation museum was amazing! We had to solve a murder case.
The actors were really good. The murderer who we had expected was the culprit!
First we saw an actor named Frank, the characterís name, and he said he didnít murder the agent who died.
In the end he was the one who murdered the agent.
After we asked Frank a few questions, we figured out that he was dating who we thought was another culprit named Daisy.
When we asked Daisy if that was true, she said he was ěthe catís meow.î
This other actor whose characterís name was Chance was a favorite among the students. He was one of the best actors in the murder case mystery.
Children of all ages would enjoy this murder case, especially if they enjoy mysteries and problem solving! Picture taking, asking questions and solving was so exciting.

I really enjoyed our time at the Spencer Train Station. It was a wonderful experience for not only myself, but the rest of my classmates as well.
We got to meet several people because we got to take the role as detectives.
Our duty was to question each and every suspect available to us. It was thrilling, an incredibly epic time for role play!
I have to say that each and every person who was a possible ěsuspectî did an AMAZING job!
It truly was in my opinion. Sometimes it was hard to tell who was the criminal because the victim was killed with a blunt object.
All we detectives knew was that it could have been either a baseball bat, owned by most of the engineer workers, and a wrench, owned by another worker, Chance.
We all had limited information but with that, we were able to solve the mystery! I seriously felt like it was a real Scooby Doo moment!
