ROCKWELL — Rockwell continues to be in good shape, the town board confirmed at its monthly meeting Monday. Efforts to spruce up the town continue, as repaving and installation of curbs on Gold Hill Avenue wraps up and the town seeks to clean up a few old buildings.
However, Alderman Chris Stiller brought up concerns over the state of other roads within the town limits, which are in crucial need of repair. The board talked about conducting an evaluation of the roads around town and rating them on which were in critical need of repaving. After much discussion, the board decided to apply for grant money to cover some of the anticipated repair costs.
The town sold an old fire car, a 1996 Mercury Marquis, to Lynda Page of Hailey Road, Salisbury for $2,014.00. The car was donated to the Rockwell Fire Department several years ago, and has been up for sale since June.
Zukko, Rockwell’s police dog, received his custom ballistic vest at the beginning of the month, Police Chief Hugh Bost, Jr. said. Funds for the vest were raised and donated by Kyle Roe as part of his Eagle Scout project. Bost says there will be a formal presentation to thank Roe for his service at the next Board meeting on August 4.
The town received reimbursement from Salisbury Rowan Utilities for the $46, 592.75 it used to install a new water line to the American Legion building off of Highway 52. The Board also discussed putting in a ramp on the outside of the American Legion building. They have received one bid for a 30 ft. concrete ramp that will cost $1,900. The board voted to discuss the matter at the Aug. 4 meeting.
