Kannapolis starts entertainment series tonight

KANNAPOLIS — The city is starting its summer entertainment series tonight with the PG-rated animated movie “Despicable Me,” which will be shown at the Village Park Amphitheater between West A and West C streets off Dale Earnhardt Boulevard.
The movie is free and begins at 8:45 p.m. It will be shown on the Time Warner Big Screen, measuring 40 feet by 20 feet.
The city’s Parks and Recreation Department and Waste Management, which sponsors the series, invite families to pack a picnic, spread a blanket and and join Gru along with his crew of minions while he plots to pull off the craziest crime of the century, stealing the moon. Gru enlists the help of three little girls who see something in him nobody else has ever seen.
On select Fridays through Aug. 19, a family-friendly movie will be shown in Village Park. Upcoming movies include “Jaws” on June 24; “Megamind” on July 8; “The Blind Side” on July 22; “Night at the Museum” on Aug. 5; and “Tangled” on Aug. 19.
Parking for outdoor movies will be available at the Village Park parking lot. Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are permitted. Pets, alcohol, grilling and glass bottles are not allowed.
