Explorers deserve salute for graduation traffic duty
I was so disturbed to hear how badly people behaved on Saturday as they were being directed to parking areas during the graduations held at Catawba College.
Those directing traffic were members of the Salisbury Police Departmentís Police Explorers. These young people have been certified in traffic control.
I learned that many impatient drivers were cursing and screaming at the Explorers as well as honking their horns.
These hard working Explorers arrived at 6 a.m., and most remained until 10 p.m. They are not paid. They are not there to receive verbal abuse by those who feel it is OK to behave so rudely.
You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. Would you have screamed, cussed or honked it if had been a police officer? These Explorers put in countless hours throughout the city because it is their goal to work in law enforcement. Letís encourage, and not discourage, them.

Support firearms legislation
House Bill 650 is currently on the table in the N.C. House. This bill will allow law-abiding CCW (concealed-carry weapon) permit holders to keep their firearm locked securely in their car in the parking lot while dropping off/picking up their kids from school. It will also stop hunters and those without a CCW permit from becoming felons if they have a firearm locked in their vehicle. These folks are law-abiding citizens and are not going to cause any ěWild West scenariosî with the passing of this bill. Please support it. Thank you.
