Cart-loads of goods stolen

SPENCER ó Two employees are among six people charged after an incident in which investigators say the suspects filled up shopping carts and left[0xba] a store without paying.
The Spencer Police Department said that on May 30, five people walked into the Dollar General at 335 North Salisbury Ave., filled up five shopping carts with merchandise and left without paying.
They unloaded three shopping carts into vehicles before a Dollar General manager saw them and confronted them. The five people left in their vehicles, leaving two full shopping carts in the parking lot, police said.
Investigators determined that two Dollar General employees were involved in the crime and let the five thieves leave the store, the police department said in a press release.
As of Friday, six people had been arrested and served with felony warrants, according to the police department. The names of five were included in the press release: Douglas Eugene Cheeks, Brandi Elizabeth Lindsay, Tawanna Annette Cheek and Krystal Joyce Cheek were each charged with felony larceny. Cori Brooke Gonzalez, a Dollar General employee, was charged with larceny.
Police have a warrant for Cheryl Renee Schaffer, manager of the Dollar General store, on a charge of conspiracy to commit felony larceny.
The Spencer Police Department did not provide the ages or addresses of the people charged.
About $2,500 worth of merchandise was recovered in the store parking lot and another $2,500 worth of merchandise was carried away in the vehicles, police said.
