SALISBURY — A Sheriff’s deputy making a traffic stop on South Main Street, nearly gets hit by a driver Tuesday evening and goes on to stop the driver for marijuana possession.
Deputy Officer P.A. Jones with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Officer was making a vehicle stop around 2 p.m. at 4565 S. Main St., when red in color vehicle approached too close.
“The vehicle failed to move over, coming within inches of Jones,” said Capt. John Sifford, with the sheriff’s office.
Jones finished making the traffic stop and was able to catch up to the vehicle.
The driver, Marcus Sanjay Alexander, 29, 1101 Old Plank Road, Salisbury, told the officer he didn’t have his license but provided a number.
When Jones checked the number, it showed Alexander had no license.
“He appeared nervous,” Sifford said according to a report.
After getting consent to search the vehicle, Jones found a small bag of marijuna in the center console of the car.
Alexander was issued a citation for simple possession of marijuana and no operator’s license.
He is already set to appear in district court in July for driving while license revoked and having a fictitious or altered tag/title/registration card.
