A Livingstone College student died from injuries after a shooting at a Charlotte apartment complex Tuesday night.
Livingstone confirmed Wednesday evening that Tevin Massey, 19, a rising sophomore, was killed.
ěLivingstone College President Dr. Jimmy R. Jenkins Sr. said Wednesday the entire Livingstone College family is saddened by the death of student Tevin Massey,î according to a statement from the school.
According to published reports, Massey was shot once at about 11 p.m. in the 300 block of Benjamin Street in the Sedgefield community near South Tryon Street.
The reports said police found Massey lying in a pool of blood with a single gunshot wound. He died on the scene.
ěMassey was a good student who would have been a sophomore when the upcoming fall semester began.î
The 19-year-old was a graduate of E.E. Waddell High School in Charlotte.
Assistant Director of Public Relations Laurie D. Willis said grief counselors will be available for students when they return for fall classes.
ěEven though most of our students are away for the summer, when fall classes resume the college will provide grief counselors to any students who need to speak to a professional as a result of Tevinís death.î
According to reports, the suspect is described as a black male about 6 feet tall, wearing all black clothes and a baseball cap.
