SALISBURY ó Coming as no surprise to anyone who has been outdoors today, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that remains in effect until 9 p.m. tonight and another that begins at noon Friday.
Temperatures reaching nearly 100 degrees today and Friday will combine with humidity to make it feel as hot as 110, the weather service said.
The agency advises people to take extra precautions if they work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or evening.
Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
If someone suffers heat exhaustion or heat stroke, call 911.
