PHILADELPHIA ó Michael Martinez hit a tiebreaking three-run homer, Chase Utley connected twice and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Diego Padres for the ninth straight time, 8-6 on Saturday.
Pinch-hitter Ryan Howard also went deep, hitting a tying solo shot off Chad Qualls that ignited a five-run seventh. Michael Stutes (5-1) allowed one run in 1 1-3 innings in relief of Kyle Kendrick, and Ryan Madson finished for his 17th save in 18 chances.
Cameron Maybin and Chase Headley hit homers for the Padres, who havenít beaten the Phillies since last June 7. They were swept by Philadelphia in a four-game series in San Diego in April.
Cardinals 9, Pirates 1
PITTSBURGH ó Lance Berkman and Yadier Molina homered during St. Louisí five-run fifth inning, Jaime Garcia won his 10th game and the Cardinals beat the Pirates for the second consecutive night.
A day after hitting three homers in a 15-hit barrage, St. Louis won its third straight by collecting 12 hits in assuring itself a win in what many in Pittsburgh were calling the biggest series in PNC Parkís 11-year history.
Cubs 5, Astros 1
CHICAGO ó Randy Wells pitched six strong innings to earn his first win since April 4 and Geovany Soto added a solo shot and an RBI single in the eighth to lead the Cubs to a victory over the major league-worst Astros.
Marlon Byrd also homered for the Cubs, who will try to win three in a row on Sunday for the first time this season.
Marlins 8, Mets 5
MIAMI ó Gaby Sanchez hit a pair of two-run homers and the Marlins broke a four-game losing streak by rallying past the Mets.
Sanchez hit his 15th homer in the sixth inning to put the Marlins ahead for the first time since their homestand began Tuesday. He added another homer in the seventh and has three in the past two games.
Diamondbacks 12, Rockies 3
PHOENIX ó Justin Upton and Miguel Montero combined to drive in 11 runs and the Diamondbacks routed the Rockies.
Josh Collmenter threw seven strong innings, had a pair of hits and added his first career RBI for the Diamondbacks, who have won two of their past three.
Upton finished 3 for 5 with his second career grand slam and six RBIs while Montero had three hits and drove in five.
Collmenter (6-5) allowed three runs on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts to record his second consecutive win.
Troy Tulowitzki hit his team-leading 19th home run and Ty Wigginton added a two-run single for the Rockies, who have lost two of three.
The Diamondbacks opened a 4-0 lead before Rockies starter Jason Hammel (5-10) recorded his first out.
