SALISBURY—A Concord man was charged with kidnapping his child’s mother Tuesday and given a $75,000 bond.
According to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies arrested Brandon Dean Carpenter, 26, after authorities say he assaulted his 11-year-old boy’s mother, Wendy Safrit, and kidnapped her.
The report said Carpenter appeared to be intoxicated.
The report said 911 dispatch received separate phone calls from Safrit and the 11-year-old Tuesday night reporting domestic abuse.
Deputies reported Safrit’s clothes were torn and she had several red marks on her face and body when authorities arrived.
According to statements from the report, Safrit ran to a neighbor’s house after being assaulted by Carpenter.
Carpenter followed her and dragged her back to her home at 121 Ladino Lane.
The report said Carpenter continued striking Safrit and the 11-year-old boy after returning to the home.
When deputies arrived, Carpenter reportedly tried to flee on foot but was quickly caught.
Authorities arrested Carpenter and took him back to the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office.
After being issued a $75,000 bond, deputies began escorting Carpenter to jail.
Carpenter then reportedly tried to flee on foot again, but tripped and fell when he reached the nearby gravel parking lot.
The report said Carpenter was taken to the emergency room for cuts to his face.
He was charged with communicating threats, resisting, obstructing and delaying a public officer, second-degree kidnapping, assaulting a female and assaulting a child younger than 12.
