Today’s air quality is once again Code Orange, unhealthy for sensitive groups, with the expected level to reach 130, on a scale of 101-150, the worst air quality of the week.
Saturday is also predicted to be a Code Orange day, with ozone again the main problem. We may get a break Sunday, with a moderate day predicted.
On Code Orange days, children, seniors and people with heart and breathing problems should limit outdoor activity.
Open burning is generally prohibited on air quality action days.
The N.C. Forest Service reminds people that the ban on open burning put in place June 22 remains in effect until further notice for: Beaufort, Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Dare, Duplin, Hyde, Jones, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Sampson, Tyrrell and Washington. The ban also includes areas of Cumberland and Robeson counties east of Interstate 95. Fires swept through the area earlier in the summer.
Saturday brings a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with highs in the mid-90s. Sunday also carries a 40 percent chance of rain, with temperatures expected in the lowers 90s.
