The Scooter Sherrill Throwback Alumni Basketball Tournament continues today at Carson.
Action starts at 1 p.m. today and wonít stop. The championship game is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. West Rowan is in it. The opponent will be the winner of todayís Salisbury-South Rowan matchup.
Admission for the day is $10. See Scoreboard.
n Minor leagues
Craige Lyerly (East Rowan, Catawba) hit his second homer of the season on Friday in Hudson Valleyís 9-1 win against Auburn.
Lyerly hit a three-run shot.
A recent hot streak has his batting average up to .257.
n Albuquerqueís Jerry Sands (Catawba) and Tacomaís Kyle Seager (NW Cabarrus) had doubles in Pacific Coast League action on Friday.
n Matt Heidenreich pitched eight strong innings as the Kannapolis Intimidators beat the Asheville Tourists 7-3 on Friday.
New first baseman Leighton Pangilinan knocked in three runs for Kannapolis.
Corey Dickerson hit his SAL-leading 21st homer for the Tourists.
n Local golf
In the fourth Junior Mac Tournament of the summer at McCanless, the 9U division was won by Ben Childress with a 45. Also competing were Brodie Perry (53), Hank Robbins (56) and Wade Robbins (68).
Childress had the longest drive.
n Nick Lyerly won the 10-13 division by one shot over Michael Childress. Also competing were Brennan Lambert (44), Ike Emerson (47), Ben Rollins (53) and Alex Miller (56).
Lyerly had the longest drive.
n In the 14-17 boys division, Jacob Durham won with a 49. Also competing were Liam Pendergrass (51), Jimmy Ritchey (51) and Luke Setzer (52). Ritchey had the longest drive.
n In the 14-17 girls division, Kathryn Marcum won with a 49. Grace Stokes shot 51.
Stokes had the longest drive.
n Youth baseball
Rowan Little League is taking sign-ups through Aug. 20 at Godleyís Garden Center for fall baseball and girls softball leagues.
Online registrations are accepted at http://www.rowanlittleague.com.
Fall ball is for ages 3-14. Cost is $30. Baseball ages are as of April 30, 2012, and softball ages are as of Dec. 31, 2011. Games begin after Labor Day. Pre-TBall for ages 3-4 will be included.
