ENOCHVILLE — A Charlotte man was arrested after authorities said they found eight bags of marijuana behind the molding of his car.
According to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report, Michael Edward Johnson, 30, was stopped by deputies after he tried to hide his face while passing a patroling officer on West C Street at about 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon in Enochville.
Johnson then pulled into a nearby driveway on Akron Avenue. Authorities confronted the man and he seemed nervous, the report said.
Deputies asked Johnson if they could search his 2005 white Dodge Magnum and he did not give consent to a search.
The officers brought in a K-9 dog who alerted to narcotics near the passenger side door. Officers then began searching the vehicle and found eight bags of marijuana behind the molding near the car’s rear window, the report says. Authorities also found $1,617 behind the molding.
Johnson, of 9201 Brad Street Commons Lane, Charlotte, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver and maintaining a vehicle to house and sell marijuana.
He was given a $5,000 bond. He was released after posting bond.
