Yesterday: Post Toasties champs

Excuse the shameless self-promotion with this Yesterday photograph, which shows members of the 1974 (Salisbury) Post Toasties basketball team. The Toasties won the YMCA’s Industrial League championship that year. Kneeling on the front row are Benny Craige Jr., left, and Alvin Smith. The back row, from left, includes Ed Dupree, Jeff Rink, Don Jackson and Gordon Hurley. Craige would later serve as mayor of East Spencer. Jackson and Smith fashioned long careers at the Post, as did Dupree, retired sports editor, senior writer and columnist. Rink, son of former Post Business Manager John Rink, is a dentist in South Carolina, and Hurley is retired president of the Post, which was sold by the Hurley family in 1997.
