The EnergyUnited Foundation has granted funds to Backpack Buddies of Davie County. With several other benefactors, including matching funds from Visalus Science, 80,000 meals ó 133 nutritious meals per child served in one year ówill be provided.
The goal is to ensure more than 600 needy children receive nutritious meals.
The Backpack Buddies program in Davie County started nearly five years ago to provide public school students from low-income families with supplemental food. The nonperishable items are packaged by volunteers and distributed in backpacks to students throughout the school year.
Todd Swicegood, a volunteer for Backpack Buddies in Davie County and a member of the Hillside Sunrise Rotary Club, said because many realize the need is so great, the programís support has come from several organizations. ěBackpack Buddies came about due to a need realized by members of the community,î Swicegood said. ěMany churches and civic organizations within the county have realized the need, and have stepped up to the plate to raise money, and just as importantly, volunteer to pack the bags to send home to those less fortunate.î

ěThis enhancement to our online rate quoting puts more options at our customersí fingertips,î said Woody Davis, vice president of customer service. ěItís the first time these guaranteed delivery options have been quoted and offered online, providing added convenience for our customers.
