SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ó Thanking his coaches and apologizing to his family for his shortcomings, Dennis Rodman was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Choking up often during an emotional speech, Rodman said his regret was not being a better father, and praised his coaches for being a father to him, after his own father left when he was a child and he never had a relationship with afterward.
The enshrinement of the flamboyant five-time champion capped the enshrinement of the 10-member class of 2011. Chris Mullin, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, opened the night as the other headliner.
Rodman thanked Commissioner David Stern and the NBA community ěto even just have me in the buildingî and saved his deepest appreciation for coaches Phil Jackson and Chuck Daly, Lakers owner Jerry Buss, and James Rich, whose family took Rodman in after his mother threw him out of the house.
BEAUMONT, Texas ó Authorities have charged Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kendrick Perkins with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and public intoxication after an altercation early Saturday morning in South Texas.

DAVIE, Fla.ó Chad Henne is still the Miami Dolphins’ quarterback, even after a rough start to the preseason.
Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said Saturday there is no quarterback competition currently going on with his team.
Henne, the NFL’s 26th-rated passer last season, remains in charge of the Miami offense despite going 4 for 8 for 78 yards, with two interceptions and one touchdown in the Dolphins’ 28-23 loss at Atlanta on Friday.
CLEVELAND (AP) ó Packers cornerback Charles Woodson did not play in Green Bay’s preseason opener against the Browns.
Woodson has recovered from a broken collarbone sustained in the Super Bowl.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ó Rookie Colin Kaepernick will get his shot to compete with Alex Smith for the 49ers’ starting quarterback job.
While coach Jim Harbaugh still considers it Smith’s spot to lose, he said Saturday nobody has earned the position so far.
TENNIS
TORONTO ó Serena Williams advanced to the final in the Rogers Cup, beating fourth-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus 6-3, 6-3 on Saturday night.
Williams, playing just her fourth tournament since being sidelined for a year by injuries and illness, will face 10th-seeded Samantha Stosur of Australia in the final.
MONTREAL ó Sixth-seeded Mardy Fish advanced to his third straight ATP Tour final, beating unseeded Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday in the Rogers Cup.
FOOTBALL
PHOENIX ó Aaron Garcia threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jeron Harvey on the final play to give the Jacksonville Sharks their first Arena Football League title, 73-70 over the Arizona Rattlers.
HORSE RACING
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. ó Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, closing in on 6,000 wins, and champion fillies Open Mind, Safely Kept and Sky Beauty were inducted into the National Museum of Racingís Hall of Fame.
Hollendorfer, long dominant among northern California trainers, was joined in the hall by three 19th century racing figures, jockey Shelby Barnes, trainer Matthew Byrnes and the champion horse Duke of Magenta, who were voted in by the hallís Historic Review Committee.
JOHNSON DIES
ATLANTA ó Former longtime Braves broadcaster and pitcher Ernie Johnson Sr. has died. The Braves said Johnson died Friday night at the age of 87.
Johnson, the father of broadcaster Ernie Johnson Jr., played with the Boston and Milwaukee Braves before becoming the voice of the Braves on radio and TV.
NEWARK, N.J. ó Sherman White, a 1950s college basketball star at Long Island University who served jail time for point shaving, has died. He was 82.
